Hey guys, just wanted to ask if it's normal to remove scabs with your fingernails, and if scabs can come off along with hair around 10 days post-op. Any advice would be appreciated!
At 10 days post-op, it's normal for some scabs to come off, but using your fingernails can damage grafts or the healing scalp. Instead, soak the area with saline or baby shampoo and gently massage with your fingertips to loosen scabs. If hair comes off with scabs, it’s likely the graft shedding phase, which is typical and not a cause for concern.
Hey! It’s generally not recommended to use your fingernails to remove scabs, especially in the first 10 days. You don’t want to risk damaging the grafts or irritating the scalp. Scabs should naturally fall off on their own, but it’s normal for some to come off with a few hairs. Just make sure you’re gentle when cleaning your scalp, don’t rub or scratch. You can gently wash your head with a soft shampoo or use saline spray to help with the healing. Stay patient, it’ll get better soon!
