Too Thick, Unnatural Looking Transplanted Hair

Hey guys, I need some serious advice. I got a hair transplant about 1.5 years ago and, honestly, everything was looking great for the first year. But then something weird happened, my transplanted hair started growing super thick and coarse, way thicker than I ever expected. My surgeon even told me that my donor hair isn’t that thick, so why on earth are these hairs now almost thicker than the donor area?

I’ve been taking MSM supplements and biotin almost non-stop for the past year, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe the supplements are making my hair grow too heavy or something. I stopped the MSM two months ago, but nothing’s changed. I like keeping my hair short, and these overly thick hairs just don’t work with that style.

Some folks online say this might be temporary and that the hair will soften up over a couple of years, but others suggest extreme methods like plucking or even laser treatments. Has anyone else dealt with this? What do you think is causing the sudden change, and is there any safe way to soften them up without risking damage? Really appreciate any input!

Hey Dixonn21, I've read that sometimes transplanted hair can look thicker as it matures. It might be the supplements, but it could also just be a natural progression. I wouldn't jump to drastic measures like plucking just yet, maybe a consultation about laser softening treatments might be safer.

Thanks, CougaR. That's what I was thinking, but I'm worried it might have been a bit too aggressive on the transplant side. Could it be that the procedure itself caused the hair to grow out thicker than normal?
